About the Austin, Texas Area

Austin is the seat of the Texas
government. It is the home to the University of Texas, as well as the
gateway to the 32,000 square miles of Texas Hill Country. It is arts and
cultural center, a recreational treasure and a fast-growing technological
Mecca. In 1995 Fortune Magazine, Austin is ranked seventh of the Best Cities
for Business, with more than 825 high-tech firms in operation and this number
is growing quickly. Austin is a graceful, river city of wooded hills, tall
trees and historic architecture - a modern metropolis with an atmosphere and
rhythm all its own.

Texas' capital is a city of paradoxes.
Austin's culture is down home, yet sophisticated, laid back but bustling
with energy, traditional and avant-garde at the same time.
Austin is indeed blessed with outstanding
vantage points from which to watch Mother Nature at her best or to take in
the glimmering city skyline and prominent landmarks.

Visitors and locals alike can enjoy
dozens of unique festivals and events throughout the year. A few of those
include the Kite Festival at Zilker Park, Old Pecan Street Festival, South by
Southwest Music and Media Conference, Austin Travis County Livestock Show and
Rodeo, Halloween on Sixth Street, and Zilker Tree Lighting and Trail of
Lights.

A lively performing arts scene keeps
Austinites and visitors entertained with hundreds of performances by local
talent as well as regional, national and international singers, dancers,
musicians and thespians. Austin is known as the "Live Music Capitol of the
World."
Blessed with moderate climate and an
idyllic river setting in the hills, a nationally ranked collegiate athletic
program and a young, active population, Austin thrives as a recreational Mecca.
Outdoor enthusiasts flock to its extensive trail system to hike and bike and
take the Colorado River for a variety of water sports.

If Austin had an astrological sign, it
would undoubtedly be Aquarius. The Colorado River flows through the heart
of this city of half a million, creating a series of sparkling lakes stretching
for more than one hundred miles. Outdoor enthusiasts will find Austin blessed,
too, with park and nature preserves aplenty. Best known is Zilker Park in the
center of the city.
After exploring Austin, it will be
clear why this city is known for its multicultural makeup as well as a
recreational treasure.
